Howard Thurman once said that you should not be asking yourself what the world needs. Instead, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do it! Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

First I could not understand and relate to his words. Now…over a year later I do my best to live by them. I have discovered what makes me come alive and live it.

The gatherings with readers are those moments.

I never know what to expect, who will come, and how many curious people would like to listen to me and hear my story. Despite all those unknown I show up as scheduled, knowing deep inside it will be another beautiful experience which will stay with me for a long time.

Last Saturday’s event (18th of July), at the Awakening Store in Port Jervis, NJ, was one of those moments. It was not just me speaking, it was a conversation between all of us. By the end we all have agreed our lives connect, and we can relate to each other’s experiences. There were words of appreciation. There were awkward moments. Example: I have forgotten my own book with the excerpts I have prepared. Translation: I have come unprepared. Well… I am just a human. 

Gina from the Awakening Store was a great leader of this conversation. Attendees were deeply immersed in it. The man behind the camera, my husband, who came to record it, gave me the support I needed.

A big Thank You to Gina, my husband Jay, and all those beautiful souls who attended the event, for being there with me, for opening up to an honest conversation, and sharing their stories.  

This was just one of many. More to come, as I know they make me come alive, and I desire to live my life alive.
